Villahermosa, place were flourished Olmeca and Maya cultures, is a prosperous city, located in the Southeast of the Mexican Republic. It has rivers with a large flow, being the most important the Usumacinta and Grijalva; beautiful lakes and clamorous waterfalls, like the ones found in Agua Blanca and Agua Selva, altogether providing to this zone of the Republic more than 30% of fresh water in the country. The 80% of humid tropic is located in Tabasco, which it allows to have a wealthy variety of flora and fauna.

The “tabasqueño” territory is unique, because it provides access to exuberant jungles, to the extensive savannah and mangrove swamps, lakes and rivers, full of life. As a living example, we could mention “los Pantanos de Centla”, the biggest ecological reserve in the country, place favorable to practice ecotourism, boat trips and taste exquisite regional food.
Even in the center of the city or surrounding areas, there is always something to do in Villahermosa. Outside the city it is the ecological reserve of Kolem-Jaá and Yu-Balcah and the ecological park Yumká; inside the city it is the park-museum of La Venta, the Regional Anthropology museum, the museum of Popular Culture, the museum of Tabasco History and the museum of Natural History. In the historic center, the charming “Zona Luz”, where you could find art galleries; next to “La Laguna de las Ilusiones” you could find the fabulous park Tomas Garrido Canabal and in the heart of Villahermosa the Grijalva river with all its life and splendor.
Next to Villahermosa, you will find several archaeological zones representing the two different cultures, Olmeca and Maya. Visit Comalcalco with its enigmatic pyramid made of bricks, La Venta with its magical Cabezas Colosales, Malpasito built over a series of artificial terraces, Pomoná with six impressive architectonical buildings and Reforma which has big squares surrounded by high structures.
At less than an hour from Villahermosa, you could experience the emotion and adventure in Teapa, entrance to Region de la Sierra (mountains region), climb the Madrigal hill, relax in the crystal waters of Puyacatengo River, and visit the natural thermal sulphurous waters spa or discover the fascinate caves of Las Canicas and the exotic natural caves of Coconá. .
In the town of Jalpa de Mendez you will find “jicaras” (mugs) decorated con representative landscapes of the state, in Nacajuca you could find crafts made of wood and plants, in Tapijulapa the craftsman worked with wood and wicker to make excellent pieces of furniture, baskets, bags and decorative items.
